SUMMARY:SNS CO-OP 4th Webinar on National Initiatives: The French National Initiative on 6G - A unique set of facilities for the future generation of mobile communication: testing for new paradigms and applications
DESCRIPTION:Introduction:\nThe Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) is at the forefront of driving innovation in next-generation communication technologies and services across Europe. At the same time\, various national initiatives in Europe are actively advancing 6G technologies and smart services. The SNS JU plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between these national initiatives and SNS projects by facilitating the exchange of best practices\, research findings\, and results. \nAs highlighted in the recently published SNS R&I Work Programme 2025 (SNS WP 2025)\, the SNS JU actively encourages the integration of results and experimental platforms from national initiatives into its calls. This approach ensures that Europe remains competitive in the global technology race by effectively pooling expertise and resources across national and EU levels. Furthermore\, it supports the EU’s strategic goals of digital sovereignty and technological independence by fostering a cohesive and collaborative research and innovation ecosystem. \nIn alignment with these goals\, and as part of the SNS CSA CO-OP project\, 6G-IA is organising a series of webinars where various national initiatives will showcase their key achievements and share information about their experimental platforms. \nThe fourth webinar in this series is scheduled to take place on Monday\, 30th June 2025\, from 10:30 to 12:00 CEST\, featuring an in-depth presentation of the French 6G R&I activities as a part of their national program. \n  \nFrench National Initiative:\nFrance 2030 represents an ambitious national strategy aimed at strengthening the country’s technological and industrial sovereignty by supporting innovation across its most critical sectors. SUMMARY:Understanding and Addressing 6G Controversies: Learning from the Past\, Building for the Future – 6G4Society Workshop
DESCRIPTION:About the webinar\nThis webinar is part of the 6G4Society project\, an SNS JU initiative dedicated to embedding societal and sustainable values into the development of 6G technology. 6G4Society brings a sociological perspective to technological development\, ensuring that future networks align with ethical\, inclusive\, and sustainable principles. By fostering a deeper understanding of public acceptance\, stakeholder concerns\, and the broader societal impacts of 6G\, the project aims to generate transformative discussions and informed decision-making. \nSign up for the webinar here! \nUnderstanding controversies is a critical step in promoting social acceptance. When a new technological system like 6G is introduced\, it does not emerge in a vacuum. Instead\, it reshapes existing structures\, creating both opportunities and challenges for different stakeholders. Identifying and analyzing controversies—examining stakeholder perspectives\, competing claims\, and underlying tensions—is fundamental to fostering trust\, mitigating conflict\, and ensuring a more inclusive and sustainable adoption of 6G. \nControversies are not simply obstacles; they are part of society’s negotiation process over technological change. They reflect broader discussions about governance\, power\, values\, and risk distribution. Engaging with these disputes allows us to anticipate concerns\, address misinformation\, and develop frameworks for a more responsible and widely accepted 6G deployment. \nThis webinar will explore: \n\nWhat we can learn from past controversies\, particularly surrounding 5G\, and how they might evolve with 6G;\nHow technological disputes arise and what role values\, economic interests\, and governance structures play;\nHow stakeholders can engage more effectively with the public to foster trust and transparency;\nHow controversy analysis can contribute to the development of an EU consensus framework for a sustainable and ethical 6G.\n\nBringing together expertise from Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the sociohistory of ICTs\, our panelists will provide insights into the patterns\, dynamics\, and governance of technology controversies and offer strategies for navigating them in 6G development. \nKey Speakers\n\nDr. Ana Delicado – Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS)\, University of Lisbon. Dr. Delicado specializes in the social dimensions of science and technology\, with a strong focus on public perception\, communication\, and participation in technological decision-making. Her work explores how controversies arise in emerging technologies and how public engagement can contribute to more inclusive and responsible innovation. In this webinar\, she will examine the role of scientific and technological controversies in shaping public trust\, policy and acceptance\, highlighting key lessons for 6G.\nAdrien Tournier – Doctoral Researcher in Sociohistory of Science and Technology\, Cnam\, Paris. Tournier’s research focuses on the historical development of telecommunications infrastructures\, particularly mobile networks\, and the socio-political controversies surrounding them. He investigates how past controversies around 3G\, 4G\, inform public debates and regulatory frameworks for 5G. His insights will help us understand the historical patterns of resistance to telecommunications infrastructure and what they mean for future network rollouts.\n\nTarget Audience\n\nResearchers and professionals in ICT and telecommunications\nSNS-JU projects interested in social acceptance and regulatory challenges\nPolicymakers and regulatory bodies working on future connectivity standards\nSocial scientists and scholars in Science\, Technology & Society (STS)\n\n  \nSign up for the webinar here!

SUMMARY:Embracing Key Values and Key Values Indicators: How can SNS projects drive sustainable change? An interactive workshop Jointly Organised by 6G4SOCIETY and FIDAL
DESCRIPTION:Event Details\n\nWhat: Workshop based on interactive dialogue and active contributions from participants.\nWho: Projects working on KVIs\nDate & Time: Friday 25th October\, 10h00-12h30\, Online\nRegistration form: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/KviWS2024\n\n⇒ FLYER\nIntroduction:\nAs we are moving towards 6G\, the interaction of humans with technologies is expected to bring unprecedented changes to the way people live and interact. By ensuring societal\, environmental and economic sustainability are addressed from the very early development of 6G\, the ambition of the SNS JU projects is to maximise benefits for individuals\, communities and businesses. This requires projects to anticipate and articulate how\, realistically and practically\, 6G can create positive impact at several levels. Currently\, projects are working with Key Value Indicators (KVIs) to do so. \nThe main goal of this workshop is to explore 1) how SNS projects are working with KVIs to address these positive impacts\, 2) challenges and best practices in defining and implementing KVIs\, and 3) what are the expected outcomes from using KVIs. The idea is to do this via interactive dialogues and active contributions from partners of ongoing SNS projects that are actively working on KVIs. \nThis workshop is the first in a series of workshops and webinars on 6G and Sustainability to be organised in collaboration with 6G4Society. This series will take on topics\, such as: \n\nBuilding consensus on the definitions of a select set of Key Values and related indicators (e.g. inclusivity\, circular economy)\, with external experts and vertical representatives.\nExploring approaches to validating indicators to value in ways that build public trust.\nConsidering the potential for interdependent indicators from different areas of sustainability (e.g.\, energy efficiency with inclusivity)\, with external experts.\nWorking with and moving beyond trade-offs.\n\nAbout this Workshop:\nObjectives: \n\nGather current approaches to identifying relevant KVIs and objectives within to build a map of how and why different projects (e.g. stream B\, C\, D) approach value prioritisation\,\nCollect challenges in defining and implementing KVIs to assess further support needs\,\nShare what works well in projects working with KVIs to collect best practices\,\nClarify the expected impacts of KVI use.\n\n \nFormat: \n15 min: Introductory Presentations (6G4S and FIDAL)\nSetting the scene. Short introduction of 6G4SOCIETY and its role as a CSA in ensuring that societal and sustainable values are embedded in the development of 6G; short overview of the experience in FIDAL in working with KVIs. \n20 min: Lightning Talks on single biggest challenge and best practice so far in projects\nInformal Roundtable. Each project will be given 2 minutes to share these two points as highlights. \n35 min: Interactive Session 1: Current approaches and challenges\nRepresentatives from SNS projects will work in small breakout groups via collaborative activities to share approaches and challenges with the goal of aligning on the main priorities to produce a view of what has been working well and where more work is needed. \n5 min: Break \n35 min: Interactive Session 2: What works well and KVI impact\nContinuing in small breakout groups\, projects will share what has worked well and collect projects’ understanding of the scope and scale of KVI impact\, seeking to build agreement about how KVIs can be used in the future. \n30 min: Sharing Results from Breakout Session in Plenary \n10 min: Wrap Up and Conclusion \nFor each active session\, participants will be allocated to a small breakout group. Each group will have a moderator that will guide the discussion and that will assign a rapporteur for the group. The rapporteur will report the key discussion points back to the Plenary. \nOutcomes:\nA short paper highlighting trends within projects\, best practices\, agreed definitions\, and gaps that need addressing. These outcomes will inform the work in the remainder of the series. \nPreparation Before Workshop:\nWe will send out a small set of discussion points to come prepared to discuss and a short poll to organise contributions and gather insights more effectively. No formal presentation preparation is needed. Some examples of questions that will be discussed: \n\nHow are starting values prioritised in projects?\nWho should use the results of KVIs\, and for what?\nWhat are the priority challenges projects are facing in defining KVIs?\nHow should KVIs support projects in addressing the societal and sustainability dimensions of technology in projects?\n\nTarget audience:\nWe welcome all interested participants to join us in this workshop. We greatly encourage those responsible for KVI development within SNS projects to participate during the breakout sessions to contribute to a rich and productive discussion output.
