5G and 6G Events catch-up:
ETSI SNS4SNS Conference & Hackfests
The ETSI SNS4SNS Conference took place on 12-14 November 2024 in Sophia Antipolis, France. This event explored the critical convergence of open-source software, standardization, and cutting-edge research in building resilient, sustainable communication networks. 𝗘𝗧𝗦𝗜’s innovative approach with 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 and 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is paving the way for the future of communication infrastructure and services.
The SNS JU 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 Erzsébet Fitori holded the keynote speech of the conference, the Deputy Head of Programmes Pavlos Fournogerakis also participated in the event.
Several SNS projects were involved in the event:
VERGE project participated in the conference, discussing on two main topics: Implementation of a Deep Reinforcement Learning Solution for Radio Access Network Slicing in an Edge-enabled Beyond 5G Architecture and Closed-Loop AI/ML Orchestration.
ACROSS participated in the event with a demo and a poster titled “Open Source for Telco-Cloud: An ETSI SDG-based solution to facilitate zero-touch, multi-slice 5G deployments across the cloud-edge continuum”.
The RIGOUROUS team presented the project and how we its leveraged ETSI OpenSlice with important new features targeting a Human-Centric approach to service onboarding.
FIDAL project was in the event with a poster presentation on the OpenCAPIF deployment and integration in FIDAL’s Use Case 1 (Haptic Sensing) presented by the partner Telefónica and a demo session presenting OpenSlice and Maestro as enablers of the FIDAL experimentation framework showcased by the partner UBITECH.
The Stand 3B – CAPIF Integration with OAI Network Exposure Function
Giulio Carota, EURECOM, demonstrated the integration of CAPIF with OpenAirInterface Software Alliance‘s NEF, showcasing seamless interaction between CAPIF, NEF, and external applications supported by SUNRISE-6G and Imagine-B5G.
ADROIT6G showcased its Demo: “MLOps and zero-touch predictive closed loops for network slice performance optimization”.
Other project like HEXA-X-II, 5G-STARDUST, 6G-BRICKS and SAFE-6G also participated in the event.
4th CEF Digital Call for Proposals
The fourth wave of calls for proposals under the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) Digital second work programme was launched on 22 October 2024. On November 12, the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) hosted an Info Day for the 4th CEF Digital Call for Proposals.
This 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆 featured the latest funding opportunities under the 𝗖𝗘𝗙 Digital program. From 5G corridors to cloud and AI infrastructure, this call is dedicated to supporting projects that strengthen Europe’s digital backbone, enhance connectivity, and drive innovation in critical sectors.
Webinar to present 6G IA Vision WG White Paper
The 6G-IA Vision Working Group organised a webinar to present their White Paper on the European Vision for the 6G Network Ecosytem on 25 November 2024.
The White Paper highlights the importance of creating a unified 6G vision, driven by key stakeholders worldwide, towards a single global consensus. Specifically, the European perspective, as represented by the 6G-IA, is emphasized, showcasing Europe’s proactive role in 6G R&D and standardisation, also addressing societal, environmental, economic and market challenges. The paper captures the ongoing global efforts to develop and standardise 6G networks and have them ready for a commercial launch around 2030.
Joint Webinar by 6G4Society and Hexa-X-II
The joint webinar, “Ensuring 6G Social Acceptance” hosted on 6 November 2024 by 6G4Society and Hexa-X-II, brought together experts to explore how societal values should shape the development of 6G networks. The event underscored the importance of social acceptance and sustainability as foundational elements of 6G, with presentations focused on ethical and community-oriented approaches to technology. This collaborative effort by 6G4Society and Hexa-X-II highlighted the commitment to building a 6G network that is inclusive, sustainable, and socially accepted.
SNS ICE/GUIDE webinar on Automotive, Transport & Logistics Solutions
The joint SNS ICE and GUIDE Automotive, Transport & Logistics Solutions Webinar took place on 20 November.
The main goal of this webinar was to raise awareness of the work being done within the SNS JU projects and the CEF initiative. It will also allow for idea-sharing with external CAM experts and promote collaboration with automotive and mobility specialists around the world.
The webinar spotlighted ongoing CAM activities within SNS JU projects and the CEF initiative, with contributions from various experts, including Jad Nasreddine from the TARGET-X project who focused on the advancements made by the project regarding the road sector and discussed what the future may hold for this critical area. The speakers also explored how smart networks and services can address today’s mobility challenges and shape the future of automotive solutions.
12th FOKUS FUSECO Forum
FOKUS FUSECO forum, the flagship event organised annually by Fraunhofer FOKUS took place on 7-8 November 2024 in Berlin, Germany for its 12th edition.
Several SNS projects were involved in the event:
5G-STARDUST participated in multiple sessions, with representatives of the project delivering presentations on different aspects of the work in progress. The project also hosted a booth in the event’s showcase area with ETHER project and 6G-NTN.
ETHER project participated in the “3rd Euro NTN Workshop: TN NTN Unification, Non-Terrestrial Networks in the 6G Era – Current Topics and Latest Advancements.” Lechosław Tomaszewksi from Orange Polska represented ETHER, delivering a compelling presentation titled “Architectural Aspects of TN-NTN Integration – The ETHER Project Approach.”
6G-SANDBOX was represented by Michael Dieudonne of Keysight Technologies who presented an update on experimentation outcomes, and David Artuñedo from Telefónica who shared insights on technology validation and non-terrestrial network measurement campaigns. There was also a dedicated demo booth with a new 6G-SANDBOX poster.
6G-PATH hosted a booth with information on eHealth Innovations, Project Insights, and Open Call 1. The project partner Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin presented on “Improvement of Tele-based Wound Care by Using Advanced Telecommunication Technology”.
FIDAL Webinar on Advancing PPDR
The FIDAL project hosted a webinar on 21 November 2024 that looked at Advancing Public Protection and Disaster Relief: Innovation Examples from the SNS Community.
Fellow projects from the SNS Community 5G-STARDUST, 6G-NTN, IMAGINE B-5G, RIGOUROUS, ISEE-6G joined the event to present different typologies of PPDR technologies that are currently being explored within the different projects.
Technologies addressed included Non-Terrestrial Communication, Augmented, Extended and Virtual Reality, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and technologies to enhance Situational Awareness.
Mobicom 2024
The 30th Annual International Conference On Mobile Computing and Networking (Mobicom 2024) took place on 18-22 November in Washington, USA. Dedicated to addressing the challenges in the areas of mobile computing and wireless and mobile networking, the MobiCom conference series serves as a highly selective, premier international forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, and applications that support mobile computers and wireless networks.
DETERMINISTIC6G, DESIRE6G and PREDICT-6G organised during the event the 2nd workshop on 6G Programmable Deterministic Networking with AI (6GPDN) to discuss the roadmap and challenges in the technology areas of deterministic communications and deep network programmability in 6G to support future end-to-end time-critical applications.
Infocom World 2024
InfoCom World 2024 titled “Digital Greece: Time for a Leap!” was held on 12 November 2024 in Athens, Greece. The thematic sessions of the conference covered key issues such as: private networks, artificial intelligence, data centers, e-government, smart cities and digital projects, with emphasis on the practical application and benefits of new technologies.
The SUNRISE-6G and 6G-INTENSE teams had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions and key findings in 6G technology.
PREDICT-6G showcased a VR demonstration powered by next-generation 6G technology during the event.
Joint Webinar on Sustainable Wireless Design
On 29 November 2024, the SNS projects 6G-SHINE, SUPERIOT and TERRAMETA have teamed up to host a joint free webinar on a common topic: sustainable wireless design.
This 90 min webinar covered several relevant topics, with an open discussion at the end of the session.
5G-IANA Webinar Open Calls results and feedback
The 5G PPP project 5G-IANA organised a webinar to present the outcomes of its Open Calls on 21 November 2024. This webinar covered key aspects of the 5G-IANA platform, including technical support and coaching, and explored how 5G technology and the specific resources of the 5G-IANA ecosystem have helped participants achieve their innovation objectives.
Slices RI start of pre-operation phase
SLICES Research Infrastructure (RI) has completed the initial phase of implementation and delivers the first set of research services to scientific communities. The project announced the start of the pre-operation phase and offers the following newly developed services: Beyond-5G Blueprint and Federated Learning Blueprint, complemented by supporting services, including the machine learning service and the Basic Infrastructure service, which gives low level access to basic building blocks such as virtual or bare metal machines, GPUs or site interconnectivity.
FYUZ 2024
FYUZ 2024 took place on 11-13 November 2024 in Dublin, Ireland. The event organised by Telecom Infra Project served as a catalyst for sponsoring companies, offering accelerated visibility of their brands within the industry. Attendees can anticipate an accelerated networking experience, fostering meaningful connections and collaborations.
ECO-eNET team members, Paolo Monti, Simon Pryor, Dimitra Simeonidou and Marco Ruffini Spoke at a panel titled “The Next Step Beyond Convergence,” they shared insights into how the convergence of open RAN, optical, and wireless technologies can transform telecom infrastructure and drive efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability in next-generation networks.
6G-XCEL project members Dan Kilper, Nikoleta Garini and Merim Džaferagić discussed AI and 6G at the event as part of Future Networks panel discussion organised by CONNECT Centre.
IEEE Photonics
The Proteus-6G research partner Dr. David Moor from ETH Zürich presented his work on “MHz-to-THz Plasmonic Modulator” at the IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC2024) in Rome, Italy that took place on 10-14 November 2024.
This collaborative research between ETH Zürich and Polariton Technologies Ltd. showcases PROTEUS-6G’s commitment to advancing photonic technologies for next-generation networks.
Prof. Guillermo Carpintero, coordinator of TERA6G presented an invited contribution at the conference: MB3.1 – Photonics-enabled millimeter-wave phase arrays based on Dielectric Rod Antennas.
SNS ICE & SCoDIHNet Webinar How DIHs could improve cooperation technology providers?
Instigated by the SNS ICE project and SCoDIHNet (The Smart Connectivity Digital Innovation Hub Network), the “How Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) could improve cooperation with technology providers?” webinar organised on 2 December 2024 has the objective to facilitate cooperation between Technology providers (SNS JU members) and DIHs in order to accelerate the uptake of results between R&I and end users.
In this webinar, several services supporting DIHs (Digital Innovation Hubs), that SCoDIHNet has put in place, will be presented. The objectives of DIHs with regards to the digitalisation of the European Industry will be explained and how they can benefit from innovations developed in SNS JU projects will be explored.
First we will learn the way DIHs are working, how they capture end user requirements and how they design the solution, then we will see a real case on the development of the 5G platform for manufacturing, finally there will be a presentation of the SCoDIHNet service offers, with a focus on the Technology provider catalogue which encompasses all relevant Smart Connectivity stakeholders, in order to highlight cooperation opportunities at regional level.
SNS ICE Vertical Trends Survey
6G-IA through the SNS ICE project has launched a survey to gather feedback on 5G adoption and the sentiment towards B5G/6G. The survey has been launched in a first phase to vertical players, in this second phase the reach is extended to all European stakeholders including SME and academia to have a high definition picture across all European stakeholders on 5G experience and expectations on 5G evolutions towards 6G.
The survey aims to gather insights on the current and future adoption of 5G among relevant vertical associations and to capture their perspectives on 6G, covering industry-specific 5G adoption rates, key use cases and their success metrics, the implementation of specific 5G functionalities, industry trends, expectations for 5G evolution and 6G features, other valuable digital technologies, and any significant overlooked issues.

The answers provided within this survey will be anonymized and aggregated by SNS ICE that will publish final results in January 2025. A webinar will follow where respondents will be invited to further discuss the results.
SCoDIHNet monthly news
The Smart Connectivity DIH Network started to update the SCoDIHNet platform catalogue. Today, the catalogue is encompassing 20 platforms, some of them may be not used any longer, some new ones will appear. A survey has been launched before year-end 2024 to provide an UpToDate version with useful information allowing DIH to use them.
Discussions with Techfinder.io project also started to cooperate on replicability. Techfinder.io is implementing a specific platform which is encompassing several use cases/solutions developed by European projects in the manufacturing domain. The idea is to share best practices and to identify gaps and complementarities.
The SCoDIHNet also initiated a living document has been initiated, it will be updated time to time with regards to the actions put in place. This document is available on both platforms Collabwith and DIHIWARE and also on the Box repository
The SCoDIHNet also promoted its actions with webinars (SNS-ICE/SCoDIHNet, How DIHs could better cooperate with technology providers?) and related podcasts. The webinar How DIHs could better cooperate with technology providers? will take place on 2 December 12h00, the web page is already available for registration here. The podcast How SNS project results can contribute to the digitalisation of the European industry? recording session will take place mid-December, the podcast will be available on SNS platforms as well as on the Collabwith platform before the end of the year.
6G Evolution Summit
The 6G Evolution Summit will take place on 3-4 December 2024 as a Free Virtual Event. Dr. Colin Willcock, Chairman of the 6G-IA, will give a keynote speech on the topic “Defining the 6G future: Use cases, current progress and what to expect” on 3 December.
GreenNet 2025 Call for Papers
The fourth international workshop on green and sustainable networking (GreenNet 2025) will be organised in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Communication (ICC) 2025, on 8-12 June 2025 in Montreal, Canada.
The goal of the GreenNet Workshop is to address emerging concepts and challenges related to energy efficiency and sustainability for networked services, to note that Chiara Lombardo from 6Green is in the organizing committee. The call for papers for this workshop has been launched with the following timeline:

The First IEEE/IFIP WebAssembly, Cloud, and Edge (WACE) Workshop organised by imec, the Bytecode Alliance, and the ELASTIC project will be co-located with the IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS) on 12-15 May 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The WACE Workshop will explore the transformative potential of WebAssembly in cloud and edge computing, focusing on performance optimization, security enhancements, scalability solutions, and real-world applications. VERGE Project @ WPMC 24

The 27th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC2024) took place on 17-20 November at Sharda University, Greater Noida (NCR-Delhi), India. Irene Vilà and Oriol Sallent from VERGE project lectured the tutorial “Reinforcement Learning for beyond 5G radio access networks: from design to implementation” in an auditorium gathering 150+ people.
5G STARDUST @ SATNEX V

The Satellite Network of Experts School (SatNEx V) took place on 11-14 November in Barcelona, Spain. This event is designed for early-stage researchers and industry professionals, including PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, who are interested in exploring the latest advancements in satellite communications and their applications.
5G-STARDUST partner CTTC organised the event and hold a presentation entitled “Performance Evaluation of 3GPP Release 17 Non-Terrestrial Networks: A debrief” which marks a joint effort of 5G-STARDUST and fellow EU-funded project TRANTOR.
6G4SOCIETY @ AIESEC

At the AIESEC Switzerland conference on 8 November 2024, 6G4Society hosted a workshop focused on the transformative potential of 6G, bringing together young leaders to discuss how this emerging technology can shape the future of connectivity. The session explored the importance of aligning 6G development with societal needs and environmental values. Through interactive discussions, participants considered how 6G can be harnessed to drive positive change, ensuring that its evolution benefits both society and the planet.
ADROIT6G @ GoTech World

On 12-13 November in Bucharest, Romania, Orange Romania, the ADROIT6G’s project partner participated in GoTech World conference. GoTech World is the largest B2B expo-conference for IT and digital solutions in the CEE region, attracting over 15,000 business visitors annually.
At this event, ADROIT6G showcased the project through an engaging booth and screens, and hosted open sessions to present and disseminate key insights about ADROIT6G’s ground-breaking advancements.
6G-NTN @ Industrial 5G Forum

6G-NTN Partner Dorin Panaitopol was a featured speaker at the Industrial 5G Forum which took place online on 5 November.
In his talk, “Is 5G NTN the future of industries’ mobile applications?” Dorin Panaitopol discussed:
- What is 5G NTN-NR and what will its role be within the IoT and cellular technology ecosystem?
- What are 5G NTN-NR capabilities and what use cases will it solve?
- How will 5G NTN-NR be integrated and complementary to a 5G solution?

IMAGINE-B5G Webinar #6 on the 3rd Open Call

The Webinar ‘IMAGINE-B5G – Advanced 5G Open Platform for Large Scale Trials and Pilots Across Europe’ took place on 5 November between 9:00 and 10:00 WET.
This webinar featured speakers who are experts in the 5G and Beyond-5G: David Gomez-Barquero, Jim Clarke, Özgü Alay, Konstantinos Kousias and Micheal Crotty, and regarded the Third Open Call, which focuses on the submission process and the selection criteria.

The 7th International Workshop on Smart Wireless Communications took place at Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT and the 5G-Industry Campus Europe on 4-7 November.
The guests had the opportunity to visit the 5G-Industry Campus Europe, to explore current projects and to learn about the research results of the EU-funded TARGET-X project first hand.
ROBUST-6G @ IEEE Middle East Conference on Communications and Networking

Dr. Ömer Faruk Tuna from Ericsson presented the ROBUST-6G paper, “A Novel Method to Mitigate Adversarial Attacks Against AI-as-a-Service Functionality,” at the IEEE Middle East Conference on Communications and Networking in Abu Dhabi, UAE which took place on 17-20 November.
The paper focuses on defending AI models in the AI-as-a-Service (AIaaS) framework against Black-Box adversarial attacks, which pose a significant threat to the security of AI functionalities in 6G networks. The study proposes and experimentally validates an effective defense mechanism to address these challenges.
