Overview of SNS Phase 2
The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) is pleased to unveil the selection of its new 27 research, innovation, and trial projects that will commence operations as of 1 January 2024 and will add themselves to the 35 running projects from the previous call. The European Commission’s SNS OPS project has already published information on the Call 2023 projects divided into 3 streams:
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES AND SIGNAL PROCESSING
This stream B covers research for revolutionary technology advancements, in preparation for 6G and revolutionary advancements of IoT, devices and software. This stream targets low to medium TRL in WP2023, to deliver innovative solutions towards real-life networks in a long-term time-period. It also includes targeted international cooperation with the USA centred on Artificial Intelligence.
This stream is divided in 6 sub-sections for a total of 23 projects: 6G-CLOUD, 6G-EWOC, 6G-INTENSE, 6G-TWIN, EXIGENCE, ORIGAMI, 6G-DISAC, 6G-GOALS, 6G-SENSES, INSTINCT, ISEE-6G, ECO-ENET, Opti-6G, PROTEUS-6G, ROBUST-6G, ITrust6G, NATWORK, SAFE-6G, 6G REFERENCE, FirstTo6G, TeraGreen, 6G-XCEL.
COMPLEMENTARY SNS EXPERIMENTAL PAN-EU FEDERATED INFRASTRUCTURE (RIA)
This stream C focuses on SNS system Enablers and Proof of Concepts (PoCs) with a target to further develop and consolidate Europe-wide experimental infrastructure(s), in support of the various phases of the SNS. Federation of EU platforms is also targeted with capabilities to extend to non-SNS test platforms, either at the national level or with third countries through the project SUNRISE-6G.
SNS LARGE-SCALE TRIALS AND PILOTS (LST&PS) WITH VERTICALS–FOCUSED TOPIC
This stream D targets large-scale SNS Trials and Pilots with Verticals, including the required infrastructure. 2023 is to explore and demonstrate technologies and advanced applications and services for the vertical domains focusing on two priorities less covered in the previous call, namely i) automotive and ii) Health, Smart Cities, Farming or Education (to be considered independently or in combination. Two projects are sharing these objectives: 6G-PATH and ENVELOPE.
