SNS JU Launches 2026 Call for Microelectronics to Secure Europe’s 6G Future

Brussels, 28 April 2026The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) announce the launch of its seventh SNS JU Call for Proposals (second SNS JU Call in 2026) on FEM – Front End Module, a strategic initiative to ensure Europe’s sovereignty in 6G hardware.

With €14 million in EU funding, this call addresses the critical need for European-designed microelectronics in Front End Module (FEM), a key building block of an advanced 6G radio system, reducing dependency on non-European semiconductor technologies that underpin next-generation networks.

Microelectronics are the foundation of 6G, enabling every component from user devices to base stations and AI accelerators. Europe already leads in key areas, yet the misalignment between semiconductor development timelines and typical project durations risks delaying Europe’s 6G readiness. This call bridges that gap by fostering collaboration between telecom and microelectronics actors, stimulating a European 6G ecosystem to strengthen supply-chain resilience and align with the objectives of the EU Chips Act.

This Call complements the Chips Joint Undertaking call that address the key constituent technologies of the FEM, their integration and packaging and transfer to relevant Pilot Lines. It also considers the latest Radio Spectrum Policy Group recommendations and recent standardisation developments, while supporting the EU Apply AI strategy and edge AI capacities of 6G networks.

The HORIZON-JU-SNS-2026-FEM call opens on 26 May 2026, with a submission deadline of 03 Sept 2026 at 17:00 CEST.

Successful projects will deliver advanced FEM solutions, contribute to European standardisation efforts and the creation of a European ecosystem in the field of microelectronics for telecom.. It will combine digital, RF and advanced packaging technologies to deliver reconfigurable, multi-frequency 6G front ends, supporting prioritized spectrum, interference mitigation and future transfer towards Chips JU pilot lines. By securing Europe’s position in 6G microelectronics, this call supports the continent’s digital and green transitions while reducing geopolitical vulnerabilities.
